About the Blog: 'For us, incorporating frugality into our lives is about finding ways to cut back in areas that mean little to us while putting our money into the areas that count. Defining what is important to you is a very personal decision and everyone is different.

A Penny Closer is our effort to share the ideas and tips we have learned along the way as we grew from chronically over-spending and accumulating debt to being successful budgeters living within our means and being able to save towards the goal of a new home.

Melissa has a business degree, and after working in the technology and consulting sectors she now has a small home business. She loves to cook and considers it more than just a hobby. She is a true foodie that enjoys making recipes her own. She focuses on managing the household finances and making the budget work day to day.

Eric has worked in the technology industry for over 15 years. He really loves to eat Melissa’s cooking and acts as her sous chef on occasion. He has a passion for philosophy and anything geek. He concentrates more on the investing and building wealth side of the finances. He manages their long term goals and works to ensure they will reach them.' -- from the About page
